Transfer Tasks

Task 1: Verify Domain Name Eligibility

Ensure your domain meets the following requirements:

  • It has been registered for at least 60 days and has been with Tucows for 60 days.
  • It is not in "client update prohibited" status.

Task 2: Update Contact Information

Make sure the Registrant and Administrative contact information, especially email addresses, are current and accessible.

Steps to update contact information at Tucows:

  1. Log in to your account at Tucows OpenSRS.
  2. Select Manage Domain.
  3. Update the Registrant and Administrative contact details if needed, then save changes.

Task 3: Obtain the Authorization Code (EPP Key)

Most domains (e.g., .com, .net, .org) require an authorization code to initiate the transfer.

Steps to retrieve the authorization code from Tucows:

  1. Log in to your domain account at Tucows OpenSRS.
  2. Click Manage Domain.
  3. Locate the Domain Extras section and copy the authorization code.

For .uk domains:

  • Contact Tucows and request a retag to ISP tag StellerHost. Alternatively, you can retag directly via Nominet for a fee.

Task 4: Unlock the Domain

Domains must be unlocked before transferring.

  1. Contact Tucows technical support.
  2. Request that they unlock your domain.

Task 5: Transfer the Domain to StellerHost

After preparing your domain at Tucows, you can transfer it to StellerHost.

Steps to transfer your domain to StellerHost:

  1. Log in to your StellerHost account.
  2. Navigate to Domains > Transfer a Domain Name.
  3. Select your preferred transfer method:
    • Auto Verification (recommended for small numbers of domains).
    • Fax Verification (better for bulk transfers).
  4. Enter the domains and their authorization codes in this format:
     
    ExampleDomain.com, AUTHCODE AnotherDomain.com, AUTHCODE
  5. Configure additional options:
    • Registrar Lock: Enable or disable post-transfer.
    • Auto-Renew: Enable to avoid expiration.
    • Whois Update: Retain or modify Whois details as needed.
  6. Submit the transfer request by following the on-screen prompts.

Approving the Transfer

  • The Registrant and Administrative contacts will receive an email from StellerHost.
  • Approve the transfer by following the instructions in the email.

Tracking the Transfer

Log in to your StellerHost account to monitor the transfer status. Messages will provide updates and highlight any issues that may need action.

If the Transfer is Rejected

If your transfer is rejected, check ICANN transfer rules to address potential issues. Common reasons include:

  • Domain lock not disabled.
  • Incorrect or missing authorization code.
  • Recently updated Registrant or Administrative contact details.
