This guide will walk you through the procedure for transferring a domain from Dotster to your account at StellerHost.

Follow the tasks outlined below to ensure a smooth domain transfer. After completing the transfer tasks, we also provide guidance on tracking the transfer progress and what to do if the transfer is rejected.

Transfer Tasks

Task 1: Verify Domain Name Eligibility
Before you initiate a transfer, confirm the following:

  • The domain has been registered for at least 60 days and has been with Dotster for at least 60 days.
  • The domain is not in a "client update prohibited" status.

Task 2: Confirm Contact Information
To transfer a domain, the Registrant and Administrative contact information must be up-to-date. These contacts are the ones who will receive the transfer request and must approve it.

Steps to update contact information at Dotster:

  1. Log in to your Dotster account.
  2. Go to the "My Domains" section.
  3. Select the domain(s) you want to transfer.
  4. Click on "Change Contact Information" in the Step 2 menu.
  5. Update the Registrant and Administrative contact details, particularly email addresses.
  6. Click "Update" and then "Yes" to finalize the change.

Task 3: Obtain the Authorization Code (EPP Key)
Most domain transfers, such as .com, .net, .org, and others, require an authorization code for additional security.

Steps to obtain the authorization code from Dotster:

  1. Log in to your Dotster account.
  2. Go to "My Domains".
  3. Select the domain name you want to transfer.
  4. Click "Retrieve Authorization Code" from the Step 2 menu.
  5. Dotster will send the authorization code to the domain registrant's email address.

For .uk domains:

  • Contact Dotster to request a retag to the StellerHost ISP tag (or eNom, if needed). Alternatively, you can retag directly via Nominet for a fee.
  • Use the Auto Verification transfer method for .uk domains.

Task 4: Unlock the Domain Name
The domain must be unlocked to prevent unauthorized transfers.

Steps to unlock a domain at Dotster:

  1. Log in to your Dotster account.
  2. Navigate to "My Domains".
  3. Select the domain name you wish to transfer.
  4. In the "ENABLE/DISABLE DOMAIN LOCK" section, click "Disable Domain Lock".
  5. Click Continue to confirm.

Task 5: Transfer the Domain to StellerHost
Once the domain is ready at Dotster, you can initiate the transfer to StellerHost.

Steps to transfer your domain to StellerHost:

  1. Log in to your StellerHost account.

  2. Go to Domains > Transfer a Domain Name.

  3. Choose your preferred transfer method:

    • Auto Verification (recommended for small transfers).
    • Fax Verification (useful for bulk transfers).
  4. List the domain names and corresponding authorization codes in the following format:

    ExampleDomain.com, AUTHCODE
    AnotherDomain.com, AUTHCODE

  5. Configure additional options such as:

    • Registrar Lock (enable or disable after transfer).
    • Auto-Renew (opt to renew domains automatically to prevent expiration).
    • Whois Update (choose to retain or update current Whois information).
  6. Click Next and submit the transfer request.

Approving the Transfer

After submitting the transfer request, the Registrant and Administrative contacts will receive an email from StellerHost.

Follow the instructions in the email to approve the transfer.

Tracking Your Transfer

Monitor the status of the transfer in your StellerHost account. Status messages will help you track the progress of the transfer and highlight any issues that need attention.

If the Transfer Is Rejected

If your transfer is rejected, review the ICANN transfer rules to identify and address the reasons for rejection. Common issues include:

  • Domain lock not disabled.
  • Incorrect authorization code.
  • Recent changes to Registrant or Administrative contact details.
